FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
AUNT SADIE’S CANDIES ON SALE TO RAISE
FUNDS FOR
TEMPLE EMEK SHALOM
ASHLAND, Oregon,
(February 19, 2009) – It’s not often
that Ashland, Oregon is the birthplace
of a new brand, let alone a gourmet line
of kosher candy, and kosher for Passover
yet. Well Aunt Sadie’s Candies™, a new
brand being sold as a fundraising
vehicle by the students of the Temple
Emek Shalom religious school, is not
only Ashland-born, it’s officially on
the market. The new line of kosher
candy, dubbed “Old World Sweets for a
New World,” includes many traditional
favorites, but made up to strict
eco-kosher standards.
According to
co-founder, Lee Weisel, the idea was
born out of necessity. “The Temple
needed to raise funds for many projects
and initiatives it wanted to do for
itself and for the community,” he said.
“And they wanted to devise a campaign
incorporating the spirit of inclusion,
so everyone would take ownership in the
effort. Aunt Sadie’s Candies was born to
do just that.”

Aunt Sadie’s
Candies went on sale this week. Students
at Temple Emek Shalom’s religious school
are selling the candy for Passover, with
40% of the proceeds going to religious
school fundraising. Here, religious
school director of education, Judy
Visser, fills out an Aunt Sadie’s order
form with Ethan Croyle, a student.
The candy includes
many traditional favorites, such as
white and dark charoset truffles,
chocolate nut and fruit clusters and a
European delight made with chocolate,
nuts and ginger called Imber Lach. “We
have something for everyone. But most
important, 40% of every dollar goes to
the temple’s fundraising effort.”
Weisel hopes that
everyone in the greater Rogue Valley
community will seek out students of the
religious school to order the new sweet
treats. “You don’t have to be Jewish to
love great candy. And this is simply the
best,” he said.
Aunt Sadie’s
Candies can be purchased from a student
of the temple’s religious school, at
Temple Emek Shalom or on-line at Aunt
Sadie’s Web site,
www.auntsadiescandies.com. “The
money raised, and we hope there will be
a lot, will be used for a wide range of
temple and community-oriented projects.
And,” he said with a smile, “we’re all
working very hard to make our Aunt Sadie
proud.”
